The celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Porto School of Nutrition signify more than just the longevity of an institution that pioneered the training of nutritionists in Portugal: they celebrate an academic and professional identity built since the 1970s, characterized by scientific rigor and an integrated vision of nutrition.

Over five decades, this School has established itself by training professionals with critical thinking skills, capable of producing relevant research and knowledge, understanding food as a biological, social and cultural phenomenon, and intervening both in clinical settings and in the community and in public policies.

Celebrating these 50 years is to recognize the School's pioneering role in consolidating the profession in Portugal and to reaffirm its commitment to scientifically sound, socially responsible nutrition geared towards the challenges of the future.

As we have already written here, "one can speak of a School when the professionals trained in a certain space have achieved significant national and international prestige, with their own way of thinking and doing, and with a common sensibility associated with the training space."

In this way, and throughout 2026, we will give voice to our community, to all those who grew up here and contributed to the growth of nutrition at a national and international level over the last 50 years.
